Joel is an award-winning climate advocate and former federal executive with thirty years of expertise in climate change science, policy, action, and investment. Focused on innovation and collaboration, he has led two new philanthropic climate programs, helped catalyze domestic and international climate tech investment, and advised former White House and Cabinet officials on climate strategy. He gained recognition as a climate whistleblower in the US federal government, testified to Congress on multiple occasions, and received numerous honors for championing climate action and elevating the role of science in public policy. He has provided news commentary on CNN, MSNBC, PBS, ABC, NBC, CBS, and Democracy Now, and his analysis has been published in the Washington Post, The Hill, Denver Post, The Guardian, NBCThink, and the Georgetown Journal of International Affairs. In a prior career as an ecologist, Joel developed novel canopy research programs in temperate and tropical forests worldwide and to this day integrates the principles and lessons of ecology into his current work.
