Speaker Bio
James Crockett is a Saint Lucia-based conservation practitioner, responsible tourism specialist, social enterprise entrepreneur and innovator with over 25 years’ experience working across biodiversity, climate resilience, regenerative tourism and nature-based enterprise in the Caribbean.
He is currently concluding a six-year stint as Caribbean Sustainable Tourism Programme Manager with Fauna & Flora, where he has supported local environmental NGOs and community-based organisations to develop locally owned tourism experiences and sustainable finance strategies for conservation and ecosystem restoration.
James’ commitment to Nature-based Solutions, climate risk reduction and watershed resilience has led to a new chapter focused on practical innovation in sargassum management. This includes the development of a patent-pending sargassum accumulation system designed to greatly reduce the cost of sargassum management while supporting downstream uses such as biochar production for soil restoration, water quality improvement, climate resilience and local livelihoods.
He holds a degree in Geology, a Master’s in Responsible Tourism Management, and has worked across the Caribbean since 1997 as an ocean educator, responsible tourism consultant, conservation practitioner and entrepreneur. In 2011, he co-founded Jus’ Sail in Saint Lucia, an award-winning responsible marine tourism company that combines authentic sailing experiences with youth work-readiness training.
